OUM Is An Internationally Accredited Medical School
Recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Oceania University of Medicine (OUM) is internationally accredited and recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), a key credential that enables graduates to pursue medical practice opportunities in many countries worldwide.
Accredited by PAASCU Since 2010
OUM’s accreditation is granted by the Philippine Accrediting Association for Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU), a respected international accrediting agency.
OUM was first accredited by PAASCU in 2010, with renewals in 2015, 2020, and most recently in 2025. The latest certificate of accreditation, awarded on 30 May 2025, remains valid through May 2030.
WFME Recognition of PAASCU
In 2024, WFME granted recognition status to PAASCU for its accreditation of OUM in Samoa. This recognition ensures OUM’s continued global credibility and affirms that its graduates earn a degree that meets international standards.
Partnership with SQA
Further strengthening this standing, PAASCU and the Samoa Qualifications Authority (SQA) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement, under which SQA officially recognizes PAASCU’s accreditation of OUM.
OUM Meets Requirements for IMGs
OUM meets the educational requirements set by the United States for international medical graduates (IMGs). This includes the key requirement that the medical school be accredited by an agency recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), making OUM graduates eligible to apply for licensure and residency programs in the United States and other countries.
OUM’s International
Recognition for Licensure
In many countries, recognition by these organizations is an essential requirement for international medical graduates (IMGs) to pursue medical licensure. OUM’s MD graduates are eligible to take the AMC (Australia), the MCCQE (Canada), the NZREX (NZ), or the USMLE (USA).
What is Accreditation?
In addition to being an important educational quality indicator, many countries require that medical graduates applying for licensure in their jurisdictions earn their degrees from institutions with recognized medical school accreditation.
Who Accredits OUM?
OUM was first accredited in 2010 by PAASCU, which at the time was one of the 21 medical school accrediting bodies worldwide deemed by the US Department of Education’s National Committee for Foreign Medical Education Accreditation (NCFMEA) to have standards comparable to those of the United States. OUM's accreditation was renewed in 2015, 2020, and 2025, and is valid until May 2030.
