Overview of Tuition and Fees

accent heading

OUM’s hybrid MD program is a unique blend of globally-accessible, distance learning, beginning with pre-clinical study in live interactive virtual classrooms, and progressing to traditional hands-on clinical training through our ever-expanding network of affiliate teaching hospitals and clinics.

  • Credit Points: OUM’s tuition is based on credit points, with credit points assigned to each unit. To register for a unit, students must have purchased enough tuition credits to cover that unit. For example, Unit 1 – General Principles – costs 8 tuition credits. Students are required to complete 182 credit points to graduate, which consists of 102 Pre-clinical, 8 Research, and 72 Clinical credit points. The cost of tuition credits varies depending on a student’s country of residence. Students pay tuition and fees in their local currency (i.e., AUD, CAD, NZD, WST, or USD). Full details of credit point costs are included in the expandable menus below.
  • Fees: Additional fees to tuition include hospital and clinic fees; accommodation and relocation costs; travel expenses, and other expenses/costs.
  • Annual Update: OUM is unable to provide the full tuition cost for the entirety of the program as tuition is subject to an annual indexation and inflationary adjustment reflecting the Consumer Price Index (CPI) changes in each country. A country’s CPI is released annually in July and is used as a guide to set tuition credit cost for the following year, beginning 1 January. The updated tuition credit cost for the following year will be published by 1 September each year.
  • Aotearoa New Zealand: All NZ tuition and fees will have GST applied at 15%.
  • Intake Fee: For students beginning in July 2025, the Intake Fee is due and payable by 1 June 2025.

Please see the 2025 Tuition and Fees Explained tab below for additional information about the Intake Fee and 2025 Tuition and Fees.

OUM has three payment plan options:

  1. Paid in Full: Purchase all tuition credits upfront to lock in the current year’s credit point cost. You may purchase as many credits as you like at any time, up to the full amount remaining to complete your program. Students must always have purchased at least the credits needed for a unit before they may enroll in that unit, unless they are on a monthly plan.
Note: In the event of withdrawal or dismissal pre-purchased credit points are refundable at 75% of the purchase price, so purchasing all credits in advance carries some risk if you do not complete the MD program.
  2. Pay As You Go (PAYG): Purchase tuition credits before the commencement of each unit. Tuition Credit must be purchased before starting each unit.
  3. Monthly: Monthly payment plan to purchase the annual tuition credit required for the current year. Tuition Credit must be purchased before starting each unit, except for students electing the Monthly Payment Plan, in which payments for the year will be spread over the remaining months of the calendar year. The Monthly Payment Plan has a 2% Administrative Fee in addition to the credit point cost.

Failed units will require the purchase of additional tuition credits to re-sit the unit.

Students may:

  • Change between PAYG and Monthly Payment Plans, and students changing payment plans must have enough credits paid for their next unit.
  • Purchase credits in one year for use in subsequent years to lock in the current year’s price.

Additional fees that may be applied to individual accounts will relate to specific actions or behaviors. Fees that may be imposed:

  • Late Fees: $25 for each late payment of a charge to your account.
  • Convenience Fees: Card provider fees are passed on to students at payment.
  • Additional Exam Fees: If resits are required (NBME and OSCE).
  • Asynchronous Course Fees: If completing a course out of schedule.
  • Administrative Fee: 2% for a monthly payment plan.
  • All NZ Fees: 15% GST will be added.

Hospital and Clinic Fees: Clinical rotations in hospitals or clinics may incur a weekly hospital fee. Hospital or clinic fees will be payable by students as an additional fee. North American students should expect to pay hospital fees on all clinical rotations. In Australia and New Zealand more hospitals are now charging clinical rotation fees, and this seems to be a developing trend. Hospital fees are payable before the commencement of a clinical rotation.
