OUM Entry Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have a recognized Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited tertiary institution.
- Have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, 5.5 on a 7.0 scale, or its equivalent.
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, Canada, Aotearoa New Zealand, Samoa, or the United States (including American Samoa), and currently residing there. Must provide birth certificate or passport. OUM currently accepts students from these five countries, where OUM has well-established relationships with teaching hospitals and clinics and is most knowledgeable of the licensing requirements for international medical graduates (IMGs). This guarantees our students access to their requisite clinical rotations and assures a smoother transition through their hurdle exams into postgraduate training and clinical practice.
The following are NOT entry requirements:
- Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
- Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT)
- Science or Health Major (Not a prerequisite for entry because the basic sciences are foundational to the MD curriculum.)
OUM Application Checklist
Applicants must submit the following with their application:
- All University Transcripts: These must be certified/official and from all institutions attended. Official transcripts must come directly from the institution or an approved verification service. Uncertified copies sent directly by the applicant will not be accepted. Some international transcripts may require a formal evaluation report to meet medical school application requirements. Please submit all transcripts promptly after starting your application so they can be reviewed before the deadline.
- Essay: An essay of approximately 1,000 words, telling us why you want to become a medical doctor.
- Letters of Recommendation: Three signed and dated original letters of recommendation, with at least one from a medical doctor.
- A Current Professional Résumé or CV
- Valid Government-issued Photo ID: A current, official government-issued photo ID.
- Non-refundable $250 Application Fee: This fee is paid in the home country’s currency by residents in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Samoa, and the US (including American Samoa).
- English Proficiency Confirmation: Required for international applicants whose first language is not English and who have not studied in English previously. Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, listening, and writing). OUM welcomes students with English as a second language, requiring IELTS (minimum score of 7.0), TOEFL iBT (minimum score of 100), OET, (minimum score of 350), or PTE Academic (minimum score of 72) to confirm English proficiency if a previous degree was not in an English-language program. English test scores must be submitted directly to the OUM Admissions Office from the testing service.
English Language Requirement
Since all instruction at OUM is in English, students must be fully fluent in the language. Candidates whose first language is not English may be exempt from this requirement if their degree is from a university whose curriculum is delivered in English. Candidates whose native language is not English may need to demonstrate fluency by submitting testing results from one of the services which evaluate language proficiency.
We accept the following English tests:
- IELTS – A minimum score of 7.0 is required.
- TOEFL iBT – A minimum score of 100 is required.
- OET – A minimum score of 350 is required.
- PTE Academic – A minimum score of 72 is required.
